Match Report: Senior ATU GAA team vs TUS Athlone.
Tonight marked Round 2 of the senior football competition for Atlantic Technological University (ATU), who welcomed TUS Midlands (TUS ML) to Liam Mellows. Both teams entered the match looking to build on their performances and display their talent. Considering the wet and cold conditions, both teams did exactly that. ATU claimed victory after a competitive match.
Half-Time: ATU 2-03 | TUS ML 1-03
The game settled into a steady rhythm as both teams looked to find their footing. The midfield pairing led by Dara Walsh took control of the ball and continuously supplied the ball to the forward line. Which led to the first goal from ATU. Momentum shifted several times throughout the match, but Adam Tierney remained constant with his possession and accuracy of his plays. Which led to ATU leading in the first half. At the other end of the pitch, Padraig Godwin and the other players at the back line kept their defense, breaking up several attacks. It was a disciplined showing that underlined the team’s progress. This half ended in ATU coming out on top with 2-03 to 1-03.
ATU returned ready for anything in the second half. Padraig Godwin’s ability to distribute from the back helped the team transition smoothly into attack from the second the whistle blew. The players worked together and showed good cohesion and tactical awareness. The result reflects the effort and determination shown throughout the match. Which brought us to full time, where ATU takes victory.
Full-Time: ATU 2-14 | TUS ML 1-08

Match Report: ATU Junior Hurlers vs TUS Midlands
It was an historic night for Atlantic Technological University (ATU) as their newly formed Junior Hurling team took to the field for the first time, travelling to Athlone to face TUS Midlands (TUS ML). The debut outing proved a memorable one, as ATU produced a dominant performance to mark their first ever game with a comprehensive victory.
Half-Time: ATU 1-12 | TUS ML 0-07
From the throw-in, ATU settled quickly into the contest, showing impressive composure and teamwork despite it being their maiden outing. The midfield pairing, led by Aaron McDonagh, controlled possession and provided a steady supply of ball to the forward line.
Ethan O’Brien was a constant threat in attack, picking off points from play and frees alike, while Cian Fleming showed his scoring touch with some fine strikes. At the other end, Owen Long was solid in goal, dealing confidently with any danger that came his way, supported by a tight defensive unit marshalled by Cian Brennan and Donal Farley.
ATU’s first-half goal came after sustained pressure, and it gave them a well-deserved eight-point lead at the break: 1-12 to 0-07.
The second half saw ATU truly cut loose. Their sharpness in front of goal and relentless work rate overwhelmed TUS ML. The forwards combined brilliantly, with Ethan O’Brien and Cian Fleming both finding the net in a flurry of scores that reflected the team’s growing confidence.
ATU’s defence continued to stand firm, limiting TUS ML to points from distance and keeping a clean sheet throughout. Owen Long’s leadership from the back was clear, while Brennan and Farley thwarted any sign of a TUS comeback.
By full-time, the scoreboard told the story of an emphatic debut: ATU 6-19, TUS ML 0-17.
Full-Time: ATU 6-19 | TUS ML 0-17

Kirby Signs Sponsorship Deal with ATU Sport Galway GAA Clubs
Kirby has signed a sponsorship deal with Atlantic Technological University’s (ATU) Sport Galway GAA clubs.
The three-year agreement will see the company sponsor nine teams across the university’s hurling, camogie, men’s, and ladies’ football codes. ATU Galway’s GAA clubs have approximately 300 players and 400 additional members signed up for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The news marks ATU Sport Galway’s first sports corporate partnership for its Galway teams, and Kirby’s third significant sporting sponsorship in Ireland, following the deals agreed in recent years with Galway Camogie and University of Limerick GAA. The company is committed to playing its part in local communities wherever it has a presence and has built a diverse range of partnerships across Ireland, the UK, Sweden, Italy, and South Africa.
Group Operations Director at Kirby Group Engineering, Mikey Ryan says this is a very positive development:
“At Kirby, ‘People’ is our number one core value, and we know that being part of a team or club can foster lifelong friendships and support networks, as well as bringing physical and mental health benefits. GAA clubs have a unique presence in Irish life, and we’re thrilled to support the ATU Sport Galway squads. We’re looking forward to seeing them go from strength to strength in the years ahead”.
President of Atlantic Technological University, Dr Orla Flynn, welcomed Kirby to the team:
“This is a fantastic partnership for our GAA clubs at our Galway campus, both male and female. Having the support of a strong Irish company – a major employer in the area – is a vote of confidence in what our own leaders are building at ATU, and aligned with our aspiration of retaining talent in the region. I’m delighted to welcome Kirby onboard!”
Sports Development Officer at ATU Galway, Molly Dunne, explains what this means to players:
“We are delighted to have Kirby as proud sponsors of ATU Galway GAA. Their generous support is an investment in our students, helping us to provide opportunities both on and off the field. With their backing, we can continue to grow our teams, nurture talent, and ensure our players have the best chance to succeed while representing the university.”

CHAMPIONS DONAGHY CUP
ATU Galway 4.10 / Marino Institute 0.10 Final
ATU Galway 2.13 / UUJ 2.06 Semi - Final
What a weekend of ladies football with our stars shining brightest over the two days in Queens university Belfast whom it needs to be said ran an outstanding weekend supported by the HEC ladies committee .. By half time in the semi final we were down to a very strong UUJ team 2.05 to 0.02 a nine point deficit which looked insurmountable . How ever our ladies wrote their own script scoring a massive 2.11 to UUJ one point second half effort putting them in the winners enclosure and into Friday's Final . Emer McMahon was immense kicking 7 second half points from her trusty left peg with Kelly McGrath and Neasa Daly un relenting at the back .
Fridays final was a relaxed build up based on the CULTURE and TRUST developed over the year with this group by manager Ciara Moran, and coaches Sarah Conneally and Trevor Clohessey aligning to student S+C Odhran Heslin. A real gift of a management team which the players responded to brilliantly .
From the off player of the match Aishling Costello set the tone winning truck loads of possession and laying off when needed and shooting accurately also when required. Goals from Saoirse Delaney (Penalty) a messy like strike, Emer McMahon, Allanah Devereux, Keeva McDonnell (Captain), all added to a marvelous victory with Aoife Cooney solid in goals with her clean sheet adding to our VICTORY. Neasa Daly , Kelly McGrath, Kamile Butvilaite, again trojan at the back and Ciara Niland's surging left foot solo runs up field breaking the hearts of the opposition. Milly Sheridan and Fiona Feeney and Alannah Devereux, Megan McGovern are also excellent forwards always making runs and linking up play so intelligently . Aaliyah Clohessy selected at 15 but given a defensive role was a real teamplayer for the whole championship, selflessly being available to link play all year with a high execution rate throughout, be it link play or availability to win kick outs and secure possession to transition from defense to attack. Laura Galligan the Cavan Gaels lady was also amazing and flawless throughout the whole weekend , so strong in her ball winning ability and again a team player. The last word for our Donegal dynamo Leeza Cunningham who is an exceptional talent on the football pitch, injuring her wrist towards the end of second half semi final, her parents transporting her back to ATU Galway immediately to do her final exam on the Friday morning, and a never give up attitude arrived back to Belfast to star in the final of the CUP WIN . What a lady so committed to her team and her chosen sport .Maedhbh Ní Dhireain from the Michael Breathnachs club out west was also to the fore when required and never faltered as were Aine Moffit, Laura Fox, Karla Gavaghan.
Our panel members also played such a vital role and contributed greatly to training sessions all year - Niamh Nestor, Ellen Griffin, Sarah Connaughton, Maeve McWeeney, Emma McHugh, Lillian Keane .. This group of players with freshers to be added in 25/26 season wont be out of place at the next grade level and if as committed as this year I cannot see why a win again next year is definately on the cards ..

ATU Galway 2.09 / UCG 3.09 ..
A close and hard fought contest was lost last evening in Dangain as UCG won the Connacht GAA Junior football final by a score . Our lads conceded early in the second half (1.03) and could not make up the deficit . In fact this team lost all Higher education games by a score which tells its own story as to how close they are to a breakthrough at National Level.
Our student led management are exemplary in their approach and a credit to our ONE CLUB MODEL GAA in ATU Sport . Ronan Riddle has a managerial career ahead of him as he cohesively brings it all together in a positive and productive way with Rob Owens and Karen Boyle also so professional in their approach .With up on 40 students training regularly for this squad it speaks volumes and is hugely encouraging for college football ..

ATU Galway 0.16 / UL 1.19
Heart break for our fresher hurlers in Higher Education final in Liam Mellows last evening. UL opened there account from the off hitting our lads with 1.03 in quick succession. Getting to the pace of the game was a stretch based on some of the less intensity battles in earlier rounds but once our ATU lads got going they built smashing passages of play. Scores from Donach Fahy, Conor Dolphin especially from Fahy frees kept us in touch throughout. Cillian Trayers was a colossal at 6 and he unfortunately had to withdraw with a hamstring issue . Evan Kennedy at 3 again proved what a powerful force he can be when switched on and he have a fantastic championship in the ATU Galway colors always attacking from the no. 3 berth and providing a huge physical presence .Aaron McDonagh again also proved to be a competitor at 7 and any marker that came his way all year was curtailed with his fair aggression on the ball and his surges up field transitioning defense into attack at every opportunity. Mark Kilkenny is one for the future reads the game so well and is technically proficient in all aspects of his game. Lorcan Heavey made a difference at midfield when introduced and the hard working Mark Collins from Carnmore also put his shoulder to the wheel at 11 and had a great freshers year in ATU ..
Going forward getting everyone to commit to a session a week in the ATU training ground would prove fruitful, and the gap that needs to be filled but with so many on development panels and being told not to prioritize college hurling is the obstacle that needs to be jumped in Gaelic games development in University sport.
A great year gentlemen, best wishes in your academic pursuit from here in ..

ATU Galway 7.28 / Ulster University 1.09 ..
Fresher Hurlers are through to the Higher Education Final after a massive hard working win against Ulster University . The game was only 30 seconds old when scholarship student Conor Dolphin brilliantly rattled the net, and shortly after this Donach Fahy had a second goal on the board with a well taken shot that gave the Ulster keeper no chance. Points from Aaron McDonagh, Donal Farrelly both wing backs pushing up to get names on the score sheet. Huge performances on the night from Owen Long with his lazer type puck outs setting up attack after attack, he was supported well by his full back Evan Kennedy corner backs Mark Kilkenny who always covers so much ground and Dylan Corcoran the Kinvarra man proving a tenacious tackler and marker. Cillian Trayers at 6 was immaculate technically with precision passing and willing always to be a teamplayer carrying out management instruction to letter of the law. Mark Collins at 11 is having a fine year in ATU colours leading the attack and his fellow Carnmore colleague Niall Feeney also catches the eye and tactically carries out his duties so effectively. Pierce McGurk and Podge Gavin both wing forwards are so impressive in all games with McGurk so effective in the air a quality blessing to any forward. An outstanding display was had by Mathew Lyons with the Kiltormer man showing from start to finish.
Subs on the night also behaved so well when slotting in seamlessly to there roles - Fergus Deeley, Cillian Finnerty, Finn Beirne, Mathew Kerins all played there part .

Our Junior footballers come up short against UL in Rd2 higher Education championship . The better team for long spells by a country mile but in ability to convert cost us dearly . Our lads owned the ball but execution in front of goals was the story of the match as well as defensive errors with the high ball into the square from our opposition being punched to in coming forwards who converted was evidently costly also.
Next up on Monday Mar 3rd at 7.30pm in Liam Mellows is ATU Sligo and a win here will qualify our lads for the Connacht Junior football final in Bekan against UOG ..

ATU Galway 5.12 / UOG 1.04
CONGRATULATIONS Ladies to you all and your management team on qualification for O Connor weekend in Queens University Belfast March 13/14th .. A tentative opening with a resistant UOG team and heavy under foot conditions made the opening 20 mins a nervous affair. But up stepped Millie Sheridan (Mayo) from the 11 berth and from then on she proved a thorn in the UCG defense with meaningful runs at the hearth and goals and points followed from this lady tallying 2.02 on the night with a player of the match performance. The other goals came from the boots of Fiona Feeney (Sligo), Aishling Costello (Clare), Alannah Devereux (Mayo). Aoife Cooney (Longford) was solid and secure in goals with her handling and kickouts so assured. Kamile at 7 (Meath) was top class with her defensive duties as was Kelly at 6 (Kerry) and the surging stylish runs up field from Ciara Niland (Mayo) are a joy to watch. Leeza (Donegal) and captain Keeva (Mayo) are a link duo and formidable established midfielders contributing to teamplay continuously.
An exciting team to watch all year and with the league title secured the Donaghy Cup is now on the radar .

UOG 1.15
A poor first half performance which cost the team the result was eradicated at half time with player led and management facilitated half time team talk and my god what a transition in physical and psychological as ATU Galway owned the second half and as Manager Ronan Riddle Lynch kept stating "WE HAVE THEM ON THE ROPES LADS" .
A missed second half penalty coupled with an open goal mis also was costly. Our men were admirable in how they went about their work and discipline was exemplary throughout. Ronan (Manager) was supported by Karen Boyle and Rob Ownes both from Roscommon and this makes up an all student management team which is admirable and the way of the future in University sports. Its also noted that a panel and regular coaching with over 40 students taking part is a testament to the Management.
Next Up ATU Sligo at home next week and a visit to UL the following week ..

QUB 3.05
CHAMPIONS !!! Aishling Murphy Cup Winners 2025 played in the new open air Dome in the Connacht COE .
Ava Lynskey stole the show with her tireless leadership un-relenting to win at all stages and indeed throughout the year in all our games. She scored at will, ran through the QUB defense constantly and was a terrific captain all year for the college,. Cathy Fogarty majestic at 6 all year had to sacrifice her own game to go to the edge of the square where we were having major problems with the Queens full forward causing difficulty scoring two against the run of play goals. The woman from Offaly went to 3 and that was it from the Queens danger woman with Cathy contesting every ball and using her guile to prevail. Emma Fitzgerald moved to 6 and with her brilliance in sweeping always where the danger was earning her a player of the match award . Congrats EMMA . Kate Kilcreast in goals was excellent with her puckouts, saves and relieving clearances so natural a camogie player in ability. Ciara O Sullivan and Ailbhe Mulry were sublime tackling hard and commanding their battles. Ailbhe Gannon (Meath) stood out yet again with her up field solo's transiting defense into attack always, and so in charge of her spot always confidently striding forward,. Maria Mahony (Castlegar) worked tirelessly and always showed up to snuf out danger when needed and her high catching was a joy to watch. Our two extraordinary mid fielders Aoibhe Joyce and Abbie Massey are so competent and efficient in defense and attack both scoring at will with Aoibhe magnificent from placed balls throughout the championship. Niamh Mahony (Killimor) was amazing from throw in to final whistle a real hard worker with a selfless teamplay streak always and a battling quality so necessary to succeed . Our Mooncoin lady Ellen O Keeffe was great at 14, holding up ball and making play for teammates around her. Aishling Black (Maree Oranmore) thrived when she was deployed further out the field collecting breaking ball, striking and carrying as needed. Ciara Burke and Nessa Daly both our wing forwards also worked tirelessly always showing up when needed further back in defense and never giving up with handling skills so evident of years with a hurl in the hand.
Emma McKeogh, Chloe Reidy, Holly Kehoe all contributing to our success and were on the field of play when the final whistle sounded.
Scholarship holder Shannon Corcoran (Sarsfields) and Sinead Hastings (Ruan Clare) wre injured for this years championship but always supported and turned up and are a valued part of the ATU Sporting Camogie family .

TUS ML 1.05
A massive victory for our men led by Adrian Furey, Peter Smith, and Mickey Ryan with our S/C student Ciara O Sullivan again delivering the goods in her warm up / activation start. We were far too strong throughout with scholarship student Conor Dolphin leading the way from play and placed balls setting the tone from the off. Cillian Finnerty tried hard at 15 with Mark Collins confidently striding forward at will from the 11 spot. Jim Veale again put the shoulder to the wheel in the middle of the pitch with Marl Kilkenny and Dylan Corcoran un forgiving in defense. On an evening where we had the luxury at half time to off load the bench our ATU freshers men were never under any pressure and to a man won out the day in all positions .
Next up is SETU Carlow in a fortnight to see who progresses to the higher ed freshers 2 semi finals ..

RD1 Higher Ed Championships Donaghy Cup
A majestic second half performance from a very well drilled and coached Squad paid dividends in the first Rd1 of the Donaghy Cup. Again this team are so easy on the eye and play smart skilled teamplay football with all players serving the team but allowing for individual brilliance too. Coaches Sarah Conneally, Trevor Clohessy, have a lovely and hugely effective pattern of play un earthed, with a focus on structure . Manager Ciara Moran's style is so suited to this group with a "Culture and Values" system bedded, a selfless expectancy of each individual to the team and the trust of her coaches is very evident. Student S/C Odhran Heslin so vital to the teams successes this year .
Allanah Devereux was on fire from the off scoring 1.05 in total, and keeping the score board ticking when the game was in the balance early on. Kelly Mcgrath again excelled at 6 showing leadership and her vital intercepts breaking the hearts of the opposition. Midfield was dominant with Keeva McDonnel and Leeza Cunningham supported by Aishling Costello (0.02) to the fore in attack and defense a pleasure to watch. Fiona Feeney worked hard all night and was rewarded with 2 well taken points, complimented by Milly Sheridan at 11 who finished with 1.01., and also had a tangle with the nets behind the goals . Saoirse Delaney was up to normal tricks again linking play all night and her accuracy with passing kicks to distance a joy . A mention to Aoife Cooney (Goals) again so precise and hitting targets on all kick outs consistantly . The often un noticed technical proficiency in defense was a credit with all defenders performing to a high efficiency level - Nessa Daly, Aliyah Clohessy, Ciara Niland (excellent) with Laura Galligan and Karla also to the fore .

Our Camogie squad travelled to freezing cold Breffni Pk. in Cavan for a 9pm throw in on the 3G pitch against UUColraine in the AISHLING MURPHY CUP higher education Cup semi final. UUC opened the account early with a quick 1.03 to ATU's 0.01 . Our management team of Aoife Lynskey, Martina Harkin, Liam Gordon made some changes to our structure and immediately the girls responded. Emma Fitzgerald went to full back ably assisted by Maria Mahony and Ailbhe Mulry. Cathy Fogarty at 6 was outstanding, reading the play and always on hand to mop up and deliver with precision to the forwards . Aoibhe Joyce again displayed her magnificent qualities in defense and attack, and her engine is truly unrelenting, selfless for her team linking up play and her cutting edge runs continuously break the opposition hearts.
