The ATU Galway Sports Awards took place on Wednesday, March 25th, 2026, at the Clayton Hotel in Galway, celebrating the achievements of student-athletes, coaches, and supporters across the university.

The event featured special guest Greg Cunningham, a former Republic of Ireland international who enjoyed a successful career with clubs including Manchester City, Preston North End, and Cardiff City, and later captained Galway United. Now retired from professional football, he remains a respected figure in the game.

Spain’s Coach Hire (Executive Travel Solutions) was recognised as the sponsor of this year’s Sports Awards, having provided reliable transport for university teams throughout the academic year.

The evening also highlighted the many sporting successes achieved by ATU Galway teams and athletes this year. The camogie team enjoyed an outstanding season, winning both their league and championship titles. Freshers teams also achieved notable success, with both freshers soccer and freshers hurling winning their respective leagues. Individual athletes also excelled nationally, with ATU Galway students securing national titles in both boxing and judo. In addition, several teams performed strongly in their competitions, with freshers football, ladies football, and basketball all reaching their respective finals.

Awards were presented across several categories, including Club Personality of the Year, Team of the Year, and Sports Personality of the Year, recognising outstanding performance, dedication, and leadership.

ATU Galway Registrar and Chief Academic Officer, Dr Billy Bennett, congratulated the recipients and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting student athletes in both their academic and sporting pursuits.
