ATU 3.16.  SETU WATERFORD 1.5

A real battle hardened performance by the ATU ladies football team tonight,  played in windy and cold Liam Mellows.
It was the visitors who got to grips with the conditions quickly and took the game to ATU immediately, going 0.3 after 7 minutes.   The ATU girls were finding it hard to adjust to playing with the wind in the first half ,  however once Alannah Deveraux registered the first score for ATU after 10 mins,  this seemed to settle the ladies from the west.  Unfortunately Alannah had to leave play on 14 mins with injury concerns.   The 1st half was evenly matched,  with the teams level no fewer on 3 occasions. With 5 minutes of the 1st half remaining, ATU playersd to click and some real good passages of play were stitched together which resulted in some fine scores.
ATU went in 1.8 to 1.4 ahead.   After some positive words of encouragement at half time, it was ATU who'd the second half the brighter,  while defending a breeze.  Sive Byrne won the throw in,  having stared for ATU camogie 24 hrs previous.  The second half belonged to ATU and they really dug deep for one another, and this showed in the quality of scoring and spread of scorers.  ATU finished commanding winners on a score line of 3.16 to 1.5.  They now play Trinity Tues week, with lots to work in the next week in training.

ATU Galway ladies football produced a strong second-half performance to defeat SETU Waterford despite bitterly cold and blustery conditions. Both teams battled the elements in an entertaining opening half, with ATU Galway taking a 1-8 to 1-4 lead into the break. Galway maintained their dominance after half-time, kicking on with greater control and accuracy in front of goal. Two second-half goals helped stretch the margin as SETU Waterford found scores hard to come by as the evening went on. At the final whistle our ATU ladies emerged comfortable winners on a scoreline of 3-16 to 1-5, booking their place in the next round. Strong performances across the field with special mention to Milly Sheridan and Maedhbh Ni Dhireain, which ensured Galway made full use of home advantage on a testing day for football.
