Our Fresher football team played their quarter final match on Thursday against Ulster University who beat them in the league final pre Christmas by a single point .

In the mist of storm chandra  a replay of the all Ireland league final that was played in early December occurred.  The two teams unwilling to give an inch  to each other went in  level at half time
1 - 04 a piece.  ATU waisted no time in taking command with  a 2 point lead in the first 6 minutes and not  relinquishing that lead till the finish ending with 2 -08 ATU to 2 -06 UU . UU couldn't break through ATUG solid defense. While ATUG caught UU on the counter a few times. UU couldn't break down ATUG speed and precision on the counter attack,.

ATUG now look forward to and will prepare for an all Ireland semi final next week.

Congratulations to all the players and managerment involved, and a big thank you to Keith Murphy manager, coaches Conor O Brien and Martin Reddington.

Some magnificent performances throughout, with Galway Star Ciaran Mulhern having to withdraw at half time which shows the quality of the panel and mental toughness to erk out VICTORY regardless who plays or goes. Mikey Mulryan again was famous a class goal in the first half setting up the ambush on UU and Ciaran O Donnell' workrate stiffled no less a player than Donegal's young footballer of the year Finbar Roarty . Jake Maher was excellent in the corner there to do a job and the Offaly u20 player responded brilliantly . Cian Raftery at 6 always plays with heart on sleeve and again tonight was outstanding.  Conor Walsh our Sligo county man covered the pitch selflessly for the team and was a credit .Fitzmaurice ever dependable in goals with lazer kick outs always builds team confidence.  Newell in midfield is another outstanding prospect and one hopes his ankle recovers in time for next week .
Outstanding men Onwards and Upwards. Semi final Wk Feb 2nd ..
