Sigerson Cup – Match Report

ATU Galway’s Sigerson Cup campaign came to an end following a narrow and hard-fought defeat to DCU in what was an intense, high-quality contest from start to finish. While the final score did not fall in our favour, the performance delivered by the lads was one full of courage, commitment, and togetherness, leaving everyone involved with plenty to be proud of.
From the opening whistle, both sides set a fierce pace, with ATU Galway showing great intent and confidence on the ball. The lads worked tirelessly through the lines, creating scoring chances and taking them well, while also matching DCU physically around the field. Defensively, ATU Galway stood firm under pressure, and at the other end of the pitch the forwards were sharp and composed in front of the posts. DCU responded with scores of their own, and after an entertaining and evenly balanced first half, the sides went in level at the break, 1-08 a piece, a fair reflection of the battle that had unfolded. The second half was equally competitive, with neither team able to pull away. ATU Galway continued to show great resilience and work rate, fighting for every possession and refusing to give DCU any easy chances. Scores were exchanged throughout the half, and the lads kept pushing right to the final whistle, showing real character and belief in their ability to turn the game in their favour. Despite their best efforts, DCU managed to edge ahead in the closing stages, and at full time the scoreboard read DCU 1-16 to ATU Galway 1-14.
While this result brings ATU Galway’s Sigerson Cup campaign to a close, it does little to reflect the dedication, effort, and pride shown by this group of players throughout the competition. The lads consistently represented their college with passion and determination, leaving everything on the pitch in every outing. The commitment shown both on and off the field has been a credit to everyone involved.
A sincere word of thanks must go to Jack Hynes and all his coaches and selectors for the tireless work, guidance, and support they provided to the panel throughout the campaign. Their dedication and belief in the group played a huge role in the performances produced. Although the Sigerson journey has come to an end, this team can hold their heads high, knowing they gave their all and represented ATU Galway with great pride.
"Our  lads are not just footballer's  but good lads they love playing and representing the college and they are gutted about tonight" stated JACK HYNES manager ..
