The team made encouraging strides this semester, showing real potential and strong spirit both on and off the pitch. Despite only managing to play two matches, the group picked up a fantastic win over University of Galway—a major highlight and a testament to what the squad is capable of. Even in the challenging game against TUS Limerick, players gained valuable experience that will help drive improvement after Christmas. Training sessions with great energy, with up to 17 players attending early on. The group brought a mix of abilities—from complete beginners to highly experienced players—which created a dynamic learning environment. Even though numbers dipped later in the semester, the team still showed commitment and enthusiasm. Coaching focused on steady progression: building confidence, developing skills, and introducing shape, roles, and phases of play. Sessions included running, movement work, passing, shooting, and tactical organisation, all contributing to a growing sense of structure and teamwork. Off the pitch, the team enjoyed a successful meet-and-greet event on campus and a fun five-a-side session with the men’s teams, helping build a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. Looking ahead to Semester 2, there is a strong desire to compete with intent and purpose. The key goal is to align the group around a shared direction—balancing enjoyment with a commitment to representing ATU Galway strongly in competitions. Exploring the option of an additional fun, five-a-side night may help support both development and enjoyment. Overall, the foundation is in place for a confident and competitive second semester, with plenty of positives to build on an exciting potential still to be unlocked.
