LEAGUE QUARTER FNAL WIN LADIES FOOTBALL ..

ATUGALWAY 3.11 / UCG 1.10

Our ladies footballers served up an entertaining clash against the University of Galway this evening in Liam Mellows, resulting in a well deserved victory.?Both sides traded points in a fast, open first half, however UG narrowly led at the interval, holding a 1-6 to 1-5 advantage at halftime.
?ATU emerged transformed for the second half, upping their pace and physicality.?A quickfire goal from ATU turned the momentum firmly in their favour.?UG defended bravely but struggled to break through ATU’s reorganised back line.?A third ATU goal effectively sealed the contest heading into the final minutes.?UG continued to battle, adding late points but unable to claw back the deficit.?ATU finished strong, taking a deserved 3-11 to 1-10 victory.

Report: Roisin Gerathy / Rosalind Smith (PR Team)..

We now look forward to a semi final clash next week against group runners up in the other section. To the fore last night was Ciara Niland improving and leading with every game, Keeva McDonnell and Kelli Mcgrath feriously competitive at the back ably assisted by Nessa Daly who just never compromises in a tackle and her link play at the back is vital always. Aoife Cooney in goals has excelled under this management team with her saving reliability and kick out distribution so valuable in the possession stakes with this team. Tara Doran and Sive Byrne the two Wicklow ladies are a gift to college GAA sport this year in ATU dual players who always show up and put in a hard shift. Up front we have many gems in Aishling Costello, Milly Sheridan, Fiona Feeney, Emer McDonnell, Saoirse Delaney, Allanah Devereux, Bláitin Lavin .. If the preparation continues on track and the players continue to buy into their outstanding management only good things lie in wait for this committed squad of ladies.
