CHAMPIONS DONAGHY CUP

ATU Galway 4.10  /  Marino Institute 0.10  Final

ATU Galway 2.13  /  UUJ 2.06 Semi - Final

What a weekend of ladies football with our stars shining brightest over the two days in Queens university Belfast whom it needs to be said ran an outstanding weekend supported by the HEC ladies committee ..  By half time in the semi final we were down to a very strong UUJ team 2.05 to 0.02 a nine point deficit which looked insurmountable . How ever our ladies wrote their own script scoring a massive 2.11 to UUJ one point second half effort putting them in the winners enclosure and into Friday's Final . Emer McMahon was immense kicking 7 second half points from her trusty left peg with Kelly McGrath and Neasa Daly un relenting at the back .

Fridays final was a relaxed build up based on the CULTURE and TRUST developed over the year with this group by manager Ciara Moran, and coaches Sarah Conneally and Trevor Clohessey aligning to student S+C Odhran Heslin. A real gift of a management team which the players responded to brilliantly .

From the off player of the match Aishling Costello set the tone winning truck loads of possession and laying off when needed and shooting accurately also when required. Goals from Saoirse Delaney (Penalty) a messy like strike, Emer McMahon, Allanah Devereux, Keeva McDonnell (Captain),  all added to a marvelous victory with Aoife Cooney solid in goals with her clean sheet adding to our VICTORY. Neasa Daly , Kelly McGrath, Kamile Butvilaite,  again trojan at the back and Ciara Niland's surging left foot solo runs up field breaking the hearts of the opposition. Milly Sheridan and Fiona Feeney and Alannah Devereux, Megan McGovern are also excellent forwards always making runs and linking up play so intelligently . Aaliyah Clohessy  selected at 15 but given a defensive role was a real teamplayer for the whole championship, selflessly being available to link play all year with a high execution rate throughout, be it link play or availability to win kick outs and secure possession to transition from defense to attack. Laura Galligan the Cavan Gaels lady was also amazing and flawless throughout the whole weekend , so strong in her ball winning ability and again a team player. The last word for our Donegal dynamo Leeza Cunningham who is an exceptional talent on the football pitch, injuring her wrist towards the end of second half semi final, her parents transporting her back to ATU Galway immediately to do her final exam on the Friday morning, and a never give up attitude arrived back to Belfast to star in the final of the CUP WIN . What a lady so committed to her team and her chosen sport .Maedhbh Ní Dhireain  from the Michael Breathnachs club out west was also to the fore when required and never faltered as were Aine Moffit, Laura Fox, Karla Gavaghan.

Our panel members also played such a vital role and contributed greatly to training sessions all year - Niamh Nestor, Ellen Griffin, Sarah Connaughton, Maeve McWeeney, Emma McHugh, Lillian Keane .. This group of players with freshers to be added in 25/26 season wont be out of place at the next grade level and if as committed as this year I cannot see why a win again next year is definately on the cards ..

Onwards and Upwards Ladies
