ATU Galway 0.16  / UL 1.19

Heart break for our fresher hurlers in Higher Education final in Liam Mellows last evening. UL opened there account from the off hitting our lads with 1.03 in quick succession. Getting to the pace of the game was a stretch based on some of the less intensity battles in earlier rounds but once our ATU lads got going they built smashing passages of play. Scores from Donach Fahy, Conor Dolphin especially from Fahy frees kept us in touch throughout. Cillian Trayers was a colossal at 6 and he unfortunately had to withdraw with a hamstring issue . Evan Kennedy at 3 again proved what a powerful force he can be when switched on and he have a fantastic championship in the ATU Galway colors always attacking from the no. 3 berth and providing a huge physical presence .Aaron McDonagh again also proved to be a competitor at 7 and any marker that came his way all year was curtailed with his fair aggression on the ball and his surges up field transitioning defense into attack at every opportunity. Mark Kilkenny is one for the future reads the game so well and is technically proficient in all aspects of his game. Lorcan Heavey made a difference at midfield when introduced and the hard working Mark Collins from Carnmore also put his shoulder to the wheel at 11 and had a great freshers year in ATU ..

Going forward getting everyone to commit to a session a week in the ATU training ground would prove fruitful, and the gap that needs to be filled but with so many on development panels and being told not to prioritize college hurling is the obstacle that needs to be jumped in Gaelic games development in University sport.

A great year gentlemen, best wishes in your academic pursuit from here in ..
