Despite outscoring their opponents 2-6 to 0-3 in a superb second half display, ATU Galway ladies footballers narrowly lost out to University of Limerick, 1-13 to 2-7, in their opening round league fixture at UL’s facilities on Thursday evening.
A slow start saw ATU Galway fall 1-5 to no score in arrears after just 10 minutes, but from there on in, they slowly began to find their feet, with goals from Emer McMahon and Alannah Devereux in the final quarter putting them within striking distance.
Sadly, though, the clock was against them and the home side held on for the victory. There were some great individual ATU Galway performances, with goalkeeper Leah O’Halloran particularly impressive between the posts.
