What's Coming Up?

Posted 20th Oct 2022
Author Alex Russell (Captain)

Hey everyone! We’ve got a bunch in the works for the coming weeks so I thought I’d throw a few announcements out there.

  • Next Wednesday, the 26th we’re teaming up with the LGBTQ+ community and running a Female Lead Climbing Night! Organised by our brilliant P.R.O. Amy this’ll be a welcoming environment for any ladies and members of the LGBTQ+ community to come and try out climbing. And there may be a few cheeky drinks in bridge street afterwards ;) Sign up’s for the event are already live on ATU SULife  so make sure to throw your name down. Any questions about the event shoot Amy a message and she’ll happily help you out!
  • Next up we’ve planned our first away trip of the year down to SUAS Climbing Centre in Limerick for the 9th of November. This will be a great opportunity for everyone to experience roped climbing on taller walls than we’ve got here in the college wall. As a prerequisite for coming to any climbing trips outside of the college wall we’ll require you to have attended one of our Monday sessions and be signed off by a member of the committee as okay to climb. Sign up’s for SUAS will be up on SULife next week and places will be quite limited, so keep an eye out for when they go live.
  • We’re going to hold a Club AGM once we come back after the break. This is a meeting where we can all discuss our plans for the year, and have discussions with you all about how to make this club the best it can be for everyone. We’re provisionally looking at 1pm on Monday the 7th November. More info to come on this closer to the date.
  • I’d also like to thank everyone who came on our Croaghmoyle walk the other day. It was a great success, hope you all enjoyed it. We’re looking at holding another hill walk very soon, and our idea is to climb up Croagh Patrick. Again, more info to come on this so stay tuned.
  • Lastly, we’re trying to improve a few things with the coordination of the on campus bouldering wall. The first thing we’re doing for this is posting a signup for the Monday 5-7PM Club sessions. This is already live on SU Life so please sign up every week for that session if you’re attending. We’ve got to keep a log of who’s attended and who’s been inducted with your co-operation this is the best way to make that a reality.

Thanks for reading! Any questions about anything club related please send them our way.

Hope to see you all soon :)

Hi everybody,

Elections for committee roles have begun, with nominations currently open. You must nominate yourself for a position and then you must send the link to somebody to second it. This puts you as an official nominee for when voting opens. Nominations close Tuesday night at 12am and voting then opens on GMIT SU Life, from Thursday @ 00:00 and closes Friday night. Getting involved with the club is a great opportunity to learn new skills as well as make a positive impact for the club.

Happy Voting!

Hi everybody,

We are a GO for the meeting on Monday 15th @ 1pm in B003 (opposite students union).

It will also be streamed on Microsoft Teams for anybody that cannot make it in person via this link  - shorturl.at/xAFQ3 .

The agenda is as follows:

 1. Welcome everybody, new members etc.,

 2.    Committee & Elections

a) Explain roles of committee positions and their duties

b) Outline the process for nominating and voting

3.    Outline what club currently has planned so far

a) Climbing Wall

 b) Hillwalking

 c) Courses (if there is demand)

d) Trips

4.  Hear ideas on what members would like from the club

5. Discuss Inter-varsities

If you would like to get involved with the committee it is important that you attend, but not 100% necessary.

Also, it would be good to ask yourself in the run up to the meeting: "What do I want out of the club from this year?"

Hope to see as many of you there as can make it!

Side note  - it is important on outlook to mark emails from the Mountaineering Club as non-junk mails
