It was a slow start to the semester, with the team struggling for numbers. As the week progressed, thankfully the numbers starting to rise after a few weeks, with new players joining and the team retaining some of the fantastic members from last year. After weeks of hard training put in by the girls, momentum started to build. This brought the girls to a plate semi final, where the girls took home a win against MIC Thurles in Thurles. The girls then set their sights on the final against UU Magee in Athlone. The girls brought home their first bit of silverware with a score line of  7-1 against the Ulster side. We're hoping the girls have a second semester as good as the first.

A new Management team was introduced at the start of 2022 and its exciting to see the team form over the last few months. The team trains every Monday and Wed at the Mervue Utd grounds, and it is growing in numbers. The team consists of experienced and new players. The development of the players is great to see, and we are hoping to encourage more players into the squad in the new year. With the growth of the women's game, we are hoping to build a strong squad in the new year and for future years going forward.

GMIT Ladies Soccer were delighted to get back stuck into action this year after a long-enforced break due to COVID19. We're quietly building an extremely talented group of players who are enjoying getting to know each other and coming together as a team. We welcome players of all standards as we constantly strive to improve the playing ability and fitness levels of everyone who joins us.

So far, we have only played a handful of games with loads to look forward to next semester. Last time out, we were unlucky not to come away with at least a point as we lost 2-1 to IT Sligo. We handed several debuts including one to our new Sports Scholarship recipient, Anna Shine. We're hoping to continue building in semester two with new players always welcome!
