Match Report: ATU Junior Hurlers vs TUS Midlands

It was an historic night for Atlantic Technological University (ATU) as their newly formed Junior Hurling team took to the field for the first time, travelling to Athlone to face TUS Midlands (TUS ML). The debut outing proved a memorable one, as ATU produced a dominant performance to mark their first ever game with a comprehensive victory.

Half-Time: ATU 1-12 | TUS ML 0-07

From the throw-in, ATU settled quickly into the contest, showing impressive composure and teamwork despite it being their maiden outing. The midfield pairing, led by Aaron McDonagh, controlled possession and provided a steady supply of ball to the forward line.

Ethan O’Brien was a constant threat in attack, picking off points from play and frees alike, while Cian Fleming showed his scoring touch with some fine strikes. At the other end, Owen Long was solid in goal, dealing confidently with any danger that came his way, supported by a tight defensive unit marshalled by Cian Brennan and Donal Farley.

ATU’s first-half goal came after sustained pressure, and it gave them a well-deserved eight-point lead at the break: 1-12 to 0-07.

The second half saw ATU truly cut loose. Their sharpness in front of goal and relentless work rate overwhelmed TUS ML. The forwards combined brilliantly, with Ethan O’Brien and Cian Fleming both finding the net in a flurry of scores that reflected the team’s growing confidence.

ATU’s defence continued to stand firm, limiting TUS ML to points from distance and keeping a clean sheet throughout. Owen Long’s leadership from the back was clear, while Brennan and Farley thwarted any sign of a TUS comeback.

By full-time, the scoreboard told the story of an emphatic debut: ATU 6-19, TUS ML 0-17.
