On a crisp Tuesday night at Liam Mellows, the ATU Ladies Gaelic football team took to the field to face UL 4 in the Division 5 League Cup clash. Both teams were eager to make their mark in a competitive and heated encounter, hoping to be promoted to division 4 for the 2025 season.The game sparked to life with a moment of individual brilliance, where midfielder Leeza, executed a thrilling solo run that carried her half the length of the pitch. She delivered a perfectly timed pass to midfield partner Keeva, who confidently slotted the ball over the bar to secure the opening score for the ATU side, setting the tone for an exciting encounter.The first half’s standout moment came courtesy of Mayo star Milly Sheridan who turned over the ball and fed a pinpoint pass to Eimear McMahon. McMahon made no mistake, firing the ball into the back of the net, raising the first green flag of the game. This saw the half time score stand at 1-4 to 0-3 in favour of ATU.The ATU backs displayed resilience throughout the game, particularly in the second half, where they disrupted numerous UL attacks. However, the highlight of the half came from UL, who struck a spectacular goal—a moment of brilliance that even drew admiration from supporters on both sides.The final whistle blew with the scoreboard reading 2-7 to 1-6 in favour of ATU, sealing a well-deserved victory.Speaking to ATU’s centre back Kelli McGrath after the game, she described the win as ‘the best day of her college days’. She stated the win was a testament to the determination, teamwork, and spirit of this brilliant group of girls...
