On Thursday, December 5th, at 6 PM in the ATU Galway sports hall the legendary GMIT Falcons, SSI league champions of 21/22, to faced off against our current champions, the ATU Galway team, who claimed the Munster Cup Shield in 23/24 in the inaugural ATU Galway Volleyball All Stars Series

The event was nothing short of epic! Huge thanks to the alumni for returning, and to the supporters who cheered both teams on. It was great to reminisce on old club memories, and make some new unforgettable ones ??

With a 5-0 score, the GMIT uncles really showed our boys where years of experience get you, but the ATU team didn't go down without a fight! Absolutely fantastic plays by both teams.

This year, our men's and women's teams had the opportunity to participate in Intervarsities hosted by University of Galway from October 27-29th. Both teams played exceptionally well with the men's biggest win being against Maynooth and the women's against UG Black. The women's team secured their spot in the quarter-final but suffered a loss, coming 5th place in the tournament. The men's team fought hard but lost in the semi-finals against TUD, securing 3rd place in the plate. Darren, one of our players got awarded best middle of the tournament with the help of the team. Everyone who took part showed that they have the ability to improve and aim to reach high goals in their college years.

GMIT Volleyball club had a very successful first semester with a big group of students training all semester long. The club consists of a Men's and Women's team with range of experience, from complete beginners to international level athletes with 10+ years of experience. Both teams have played matches against NUIG and TUS Midlands this year in the group stages of Student Sport Ireland Volleyball League. Our Men's team won both matches 3-0 to top the group and will host RCSI in a home quarter final at the beginning of next year. Unfortunately, our ladies lost both of their matches despite excellent performances.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of our control, there will be no college volleyball until 2021. However, that doesn't mean we can't organise other online events like the quiz we had on Friday last. If you've any idea of what you'd like us to do, don't hesitate to let us know.
