Suas is an indoor climbing wall in Limerick - this trip is suitable for everybody who would like to come. Be warned it is a long day as it is a 2.5 hr drive!

Our first hike of the year kicks off this week on Achill island. Ideal for beginners, or those beginning their mountain skills assessment. An ok level of fitness is required, but nothing crazy!

Bring waterproof pants, and jacket, and an extra layer or two. Lunch and a snack is a great shout too, as well as a flask with a hot beverage if you have it.

Al will be leaving from the college at 1.30, and the day may run late.

We’re back with a bang! To celebrate our return after exams and Christmas we’re starting off strong with a SUAS Climbing Centre trip! The aim of this trip is to refresh your skills from climbing in the college wall before Christmas and experience taller roped walls and modern bouldering.

SUAS is also currently the host of Round 4 of the Irish Bouldering League! So if anybody is feeling like a challenge this will be great practice for the upcoming Irish Climbing Intervarsities next month.

All that we ask as a pre-requisite is that you've come to at least one of our Monday sessions before you come on one of these trips.

Come on down to try all the new climbs and get a taste of what a climbing competition feels like!

Our first club SUAS trip of the year! The aim of this trip is to take the skills you've been practicing in the college wall and applying them to taller roped walls.

Come along to our first female lead climbing night! In collaboration with the LGBTQ+ society , we’ve created a safe space for ladies and members of the LGBTQ+ community to come along and try out some climbing! Whether you’re a pro or a (pro) beginner, there’s a spot for you to enjoy and learn something new, as well as some music and laughs! The event will take place next Wednesday, the 26th at 6pm in our climbing gym, followed by a few drinks in the lovely bridge street for everyone to get to know each other a little better!

Our first hike of the year!

With wonderful views of Nephin and the Nephin Begs, Croaghmoyle offers a great opportunity for you to get out and experience what Co.Mayo has to offer.

It is a beginner friendly route, with a paved surface making it incredibly accessible for all. It is a gentle climb of 330m over 4.6km to a viewpoint of 430m, taking just over an hour to reach the summit. 

It is recommended that everyone brings their own rucksack containing the following:

· Multiple warm layers (It may be windy or a bit wet so having multiple layers to keep warm will be very helpful)

· Appropriate footwear (Paved surface so runners are fine, boots are still recommended if owned)

· Waterproof jacket and pants

· Headtorch (if you have one, not essential as plan is to be back before dark)

· Water

· Sun-cream (winter sun is more dangerous)

· Hot drink + food/snack

The bus is leaving from the front of the college (outside reception) at 2pm (only a 15 minute drive), and plan is to be back at 5pm. 

Spaces are limited so be sure to book your place on ATU SULife!

We will be running an "Introduction to Maps" session for those eager to learn how to use this key resource that is paramount to navigation when out on the hills, and offers an opportunity for those with some knowledge to refresh what they know. We will be looking at:

• How to read a map
• Route planning
• Feature Recognition 
• Timing & Distance
• Brief Compass Work
• and more!

It will be nice and relaxed and hopefully people can start to make use of this information while out on their next hike.
