Fitzgibbon Cup – Round 2 Match Report - Laoise O Shea (Head of PR).

Round 2 of the Fitzgibbon Cup saw ATU Galway take on MICL in a hard-fought and entertaining encounter. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our lads’ day, but despite the result there was no shortage of effort, commitment, or pride shown throughout the performance.
ATU Galway made an explosive start to the game and were ruthless in front of goal, building a sizeable advantage in the opening half. MICL battled well and worked some excellent scoring opportunities, registering a series of fine points to stay in touch. However, at the half-time whistle ATU Galway held the upper hand, leading 4-06 to 0-11.
MICL responded positively after the break, showing real resilience and character. The lads upped the tempo, fought hard for every possession, and applied consistent pressure across the field. This effort was rewarded with a well-taken goal and a strong return of points as MICL continued to push ATU Galway all the way to the final whistle. ATU Galway added further scores of their own in a competitive second half, and at full time the scoreline read ATU Galway 5-09 to MICL 1-24.
While the result means MICL progress and ATU Galway’s Fitzgibbon Cup campaign comes to an end, the performance and spirit shown by the lads throughout the competition deserves great credit. They left everything on the pitch and represented ATU Galway with pride. A sincere word of thanks goes to Brian Hanley and all his coaches and selectors for their dedication and commitment in guiding the team through the championship.

In an outstanding team performance aligned to team play and support play this display has to be recognised as to a man they emptied the tank and could be argued we deserved something from this workmanlike commitment to the game of hurling.

Next up a relegation game to maintain our Fitzgibbon Cup status .

A Proud honorable performance .
